    Chateau Moneins

    Chateau Moneins Haut-Medoc 2011

    $ 22.99

    Chateau Moneins is produced as a second label for the larger Chateau Micalet. The property is in Cussac-Fort-Medoc on the river between St. Julien and Margaux. When the appellation boundaries were originally drawn, Chateau Micalet and much of the village of Cussac was a signature away from being included. Yet not all of the village lived up to the quality expected of a St. Julien, and instead of offending half the town, the authorities decided to cut Cussac out entirely. Moneins is a one hectare parcel with average vine age of 30 years and deep gravel soils, comprised of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. They have never used chemicals on the property and practice full organic farming, becoming AB certified with the 2009 vintage. They also observe the lunar calendar for the farming, use cover crops to promote biodiversity, and add no sulfites during winemaking.

    Like most classic Bordeaux, it is raised to be long-lived and works best when served with food, especially meats with higher fat content that will bind with the tannins in the wine, allowing the flavors of the food and wine to flow harmoniously together. If you plan to drink it in the near future, then we recommend a long decant of 1-2 hours to help the wine open.
