    American Freedom Distillery

    Horse Soldier Barrel Strength Bourbon Whiskey

    $ 89.99

    Founded as a company for veterans by veterans, the American Freedom Distillery began as a way to give back to the community by providing employment to former members of the military. While the distillery produces a variety of craft spirits, they are primarily known for Horse Soldier label which pays tribute to the small special forces teams that fought on horseback in Afghanistan in the wake of the tragic 9/11 attacks.

    On the nose, the bourbon yields a sweet aroma brimming with notes of apples, honey, citrus, toffee, and leather. This then gives way to a scrumptious palate of caramel, more honey, butterscotch, spiced raisins, cashews, oak, and touches of coffee, culminating in a medium finish of sour apple and light honey notes with a pleasing alcohol heat.

    The Horse Soldier Barrel Strength Bourbon serves as the most recent addition to their line boasting more robust flavors than previous offerings. Distilled from a mash bill consisting of 70% yellow dent corn, 20% red winter wheat, 10% malted barley, the bourbon spent a total of 8 years in new, charred American oak casks before being bottled at a 113 proof in bottles cast using a mold made from salvaged steel from the World Trade Center.
